Definition: Is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical devicee or figure of speech. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is not meant to be taken literally
Example: Her brain is the sign of a pea.
Alliteration
Defintion: When two or more words in a poem begin with the same letter or sound.
Example: Rabbits Running over Roses

Rhythm & Rhyme
Definition: a movement with uniform recurrence of a beat or accent & Rhyme is not only a recurrence but a matching of sounds
Example: One, two, Buckle my shoe. Three, four, Shut the door.
Analogy
Definition: is a cognitive process of transferring information or meaning from a particular subject to another particular subject (the target), and a linguistic expression corresponding to such a process
Example: The relationship between them began to thaw. This means that the relationship was changing.
Personification
Defintion:A trope or figure of speech in which an inanimate object or abstraction is given human qualities or abilities.
Example: "Oreo: Milk’s favorite cookie."

Allusion
Definition: A brief, usually indirect reference to a person, place, or event
Example: “I was surprised his nose was not growing like Pinocchio’s.”
Oxymoron
Definition: A figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction
Example: "Ralph, if you're gonna be a phony, you might as well be a real phony."
Euphemism
Definition: The act or an example of substituting a mild, indirect, or vague term for one considered harsh, blunt, or offensive
Example: Passed away instead of died
Imagery
Definition: Vivid descriptive language that appeals to one or more of the senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste).
Example: Though I was on the sheer face of a mountain, the feeling of
swinging through the air was euphoric, almost like flying without wings.
Irony
Definition:the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning
Example: the irony of her reply,“How nice!”when I said I had to work all weekend.

Malapropism
Definition: Absurd or humorous misuse of a word, especially by confusion with one of similar sound.
Example: "This series has been swings and pendulums all the way through."
Onomatopoeia
Definition: The use of words that imitate the sounds associated with the objects or actions they refer to.
Example: The clock goes tick tock.
Satire
Definition: A text or performance that uses irony, derision, or wit to expose or attack human vice, foolishness, or stupidity.
